Our Mission, Vision, & Values

Our Mission

The mission of the MEC is to empower, encourage and educate all Montana families with children and young adults with disabilities.

Our Vision

We envision that individuals and families with children and young adults with disabilities will have the information, resources and support they need to make informed and empowered choices.

Our Values

MEC’s values are as follows:

Montana Empowerment Center

Empowering families. Strengthening communities.

  • MEC believes families are a child’s first and most important teachers.
  • With the right information, tools, and support, families can make great decisions that help their children grow, thrive, and succeed.
  • Families and people with disabilities have a say in the policies and decisions that affect their lives.
  • Our communities are stronger when everyone—of all abilities—is included, involved, and welcomed.
  • Every child and young adult can learn and has the right to be part of their school and community.
  • Families deserve support and encouragement as they care for and guide their children.
  • Every person is unique. Services and supports should be tailored to meet each individual’s needs.
  • We believe in high expectations for people with disabilities and with the right support, everyone can reach their goals.
  • Working together—families, educators, professionals, and individuals with disabilities—leads to better outcomes for everyone.
  • The words we use matter. We speak about families and people with disabilities with respect and dignity, always honoring their worth.
  • Knowing the law and using proven strategies helps families and professionals work together to support successful children and youth.
